ARK Dogs Get a Professional Trainer's Touch
The ARK is proud to announce that we now have Manfred Roth, a dog psychologist and obedience dog trainer from Germany, with his wife Maria, training with our dogs 3 mornings a week. Manfred does not speak English, but Maria is bi-lingual and it is working out great for the ARK dogs and our volunteers.
Manfred is volunteering his time and expertise at the ARK evaluating our dogs, working with problem dogs, and doing some basic obedience training (come, sit, heel, down, and stay). Manfred trains the dogs using verbal commands as well as appropriate hand motions.
He is learning English but with Maria translating, things are going great for our dogs at the ARK. We feel Manfred and Maria will be an additional asset to our organization. His kind and gentle method of training will make some of our problem dogs more adoptable. We are lucky they found us!
We have great new T-shirts with a great new logo, the one on the main page of this site, with the animals in the ARK. The shirts feature the logo (of course, it is much larger on the shirt), front and center, with the words, "The ARK" on top, and underneath, Nina's quote, "Saving the live of one animal may not change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal." Stop by the ARK and pick up one up for the animal lover in your life, and be sure to pick up something for yourself in our thrift store!
The ARK's Thrift Store is open for business! We have a huge, tidy shopping area, and many of the items we have are brand new! We accept donations to the store, which are tax deductible. You never know what treasures you might find. Check out our new Thrift Store page!
The ARK accepts Memorial & Honorarium contributions. You can send a Memorial or Honorarium donation in loving memory or in honor of a pet, family member, or friend. The ARK will acknowledge your gift. Your $25.00 membership to the ARK will help the animals aboard the ARK. We will send you a membership card and put you on our mailing list so you can receive our newsletters. All quality non-profit organizations need financial resources to achieve their goals. Your donation to the ARK will help us rescue more animals and care for the ones already aboard the ARK.
Congratulations to the ARK's Founder and Director, Nina Beal! The State of Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and the State of Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation honored this dedicated, hardworking lady with the Bowie-Heath Humanitarian Award for the work she has done with animals and people in our community.

It was a great surprise and a great honor for Nina. She is the very first person to receive this award!! To be recognized by veterinary professionals is the highest most honorable award someone in her field could receive. She was presented the award at a special ceremony at the Space and Rocket Center on January 29th, 2005. Liz Hurley was the emcee.

Also inducted were the Auburn Eagle Tiger into the Alabama Animal Hall of Fame, as well as Ms Baker, the little monkey that lived so long at the Space and Rocket Center. In addition, they inducted a Husky named Jack Tripp for saving his family from a deadly house fire.

Sounds like Nina was in good company! Congratulations to Nina from all of the ARK volunteers, along with a big thanks from all of the animals and their adopted families who can credit their happy relationships with their pets to her hard work and dedication!
